Meet the wildlife

The good, the bad and the ugly

One of the wonderful things about living in Sedalia is the wildlife that shares our neighborhood.  Our back yard is, literally, the Pike National Forest. We share our little piece of land with an abundance of animals, on every level of the food chain.

Some are congenial, like this intrepid little bird eking out a bit of suet on a recent snowy day.

Most are congenial, like this intrepid little bird eking out a bit of our homemade suet on a recent snowy day.

In fact, we set no size limit for who may dine at our bird feeder.

lionTo be completely honest, though, some are less welcome than others.

Some are welcome at a distance - less so when they're checking out the chicken buffet on a random summer afternoon. We do like to view some animals at more of a distance – much less so when they’re checking out the chicken buffet on a random summer afternoon.

But this is their home as well as ours, and the majority of the time, we happily co-exist, marveling at the variety of life that makes its way to our neck of the woods. It’s a beautiful world in which we live.
